- On local placements produced page leads and features for the respective news desks
- At the London Evening Standard took on the duties of a news desk editorial assistant and spotted several stories that became page leads and got three bylines in my week’s work experience
- Helped research articles, write and sub copy for the sports and online desks of The Guardian, The Sun, Daily Mail and The Independent
- At the Sunday People spent time on all major desks and produced an A-Z guide of where to take children during the summer holidays.
Student Journalism
Sports Editor at Palatinate (Durham University’s official student newspaper) February 2009 – June 2010 (Previously Deputy Sport Editor, September 2008 – February 2009)
- Created The Locker Room (A 16 page sports supplement)
- Notable interviews with sport figures – including Gabby Logan, Will Smith, Malcom Clarke, Chris Turner, Graeme Fowler, Andy Walsh, Erik Samuelson and Rob Vickers
- Managed a team of writers and photographers, edited and laid up the section, wrote headlines and captions, trained new staff and liaised with key sporting figures in the university
